Mood and Anxiety

Mood and Anxiety

Living with anxiety or a mood disorder can interfere with daily life and inflict pain and hardship not only on you, but also those around you.

You Are Not Alone, We Are Here to Help

Mood and anxiety disorders are quite common among U.S. adults. About 9.5% of the adult population have a mood disorder, to which 45% of these cases are classified as "severe." About 18% have an anxiety disorder, and in both cases, women are 50-60% more likely to experience one of these disorders. However, just by seeking help and getting treatment, these disorders can be manageable to create a brighter future for yourself and those you care about

The Main Four

The four most common mood and anxiety disorders we deal with are broken up into the following:

Depression

Depression is more than just feeling sad or “down” for a few days. When you have depression, the ongoing feelings of emptiness, lack of energy, motivation, difficulty getting out of bed, isolation, become daily barriers to living life to the fullest and having healthy connections with family and other social relationships. In extreme conditions, depression can even lead to self harm or suicide. It is a common yet severe illness that has many forms and subsets. We will work with you to ensure you receive the most effective treatment for your unique condition.

Bipolar

Everyone has ups and downs, but those who suffer with bipolar disorder experience extreme lows of feeling sad or hopeless (known as depressive episodes), and extreme highs of feeling elevated and impulsive (known as manic episodes). Manic episodes may include things such as inflated self esteem, decreased need for sleep, being unusually talkative, or participation in high-risk activities which may have severe negative consequences.

These manic episodes usually occur immediately before or after a depressive episode. However, the cycle between manic and depressive episodes can last only hours for some, or months for others. It can be very difficult to diagnose and symptoms can begin as early as childhood with half of all cases diagnosed before the age of 25. Once it is diagnosed, it is typically a long-term illness that needs to be carefully managed throughout a person’s life.

Anxiety

Anxiety is more than being nervous about public speaking or during a stressful event. Anxiety disorders come in a wide range, which usually occur around excessive irrational fear or dread. Collectively, anxiety disorders are the most common mental illness in America. Anxiety disorders can have occupational consequences, can make one avoid positive relations such as dating, cause decreased contact and interaction within the workplace, and being misunderstood by family or friends. They often occur together with other mental illnesses, yet they are one of the most treatable disorders in psychiatry.

OCD

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is an extreme anxiety disorder characterized by frequent intrusive and upsetting thoughts called obsessions. These obsessions are often accompanied by the overwhelming need to perform regular rituals and routines called compulsions. Those with OCD find themselves controlled by these obsessions and compulsions, often making him or her unable to complete assignments, attend events, get to work, all because of these routines. With treatment however, you can learn to control these symptoms, leading to a fulfilling life.

Customized For You

Anxiety and mood disorders can be caused by a variety of factors such as environmental, genetic, or brain structure.

Living with a mood or anxiety disorder does not mean you are weak or broken. There are countless factors contributing to the chemical makeup of your body, including those that were passed down to you, as well as past stresses or situations that may have altered the balance. We will use our expertise and experience to help you restore this balance physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Genetic testing: customizing medication for your ideal fit

In the course of treatment, some patients do not respond to medication as expect. For these patients, we can offer genetic testing which tells us how your body breaks down medication. Using this information, we can better decide the type of medication and dosage that will be best suited for you.

The process for genetic testing is simple: it only takes a few check swabs. The obtained DNA will be analyzed and ready for you in a couple weeks. With these results we can adjust the medication and dosage to find the ideal customized fit for your treatment.

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) Therapy

We are currently partnering with BrainsWay to provide Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation, or TMS solutions for depression and Anxiety.

BrainsWay is an innovative medical device company specializing in an FDA cleared, noninvasive treatment known as Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation, or TMS, which is used to treat psychiatric conditions. TMS uses a magnetic field to stimulate a specific target region in the brain that controls mood, using it to treat symptoms of Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), by activating the neural pathways. BrainsWay offers a unique type of TMS treatment known as Deep TMS which has proven to be more accurate and efficient in targeting the brain while maintaining safe levels of stimulation. BrainsWay’s Deep TMS is patented and FDA cleared to treat both MDD and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), making it the only TMS solution that has been proven to treat patients suffering from OCD.

The BrainsWay device uses advanced technology and comes in the form of a helmet that is worn during treatment. Treatment for MDD occurs five times a week for four weeks, and then twice a week for an additional 12 weeks as needed for maintenance. People suffering from OCD have five treatment sessions a week for five weeks followed by four sessions in the sixth week. BrainsWay’s helmet is currently being sold and leased to TMS clinics across North America and elsewhere. BrainsWay’s extensive Research and Development team is actively working to create additional treatment applications for Opioid addiction, PTSD, smoking cessation and many more conditions.
